Exodus from public schools gets a helping hand
Columbia, S.C. Dr. D. James Kennedy, pastor of
Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Ft. Lauderdale, FL and one of
Americas most influential Christian leaders, broadcast an
interview with E. Ray Moore, Jr., director of Exodus Mandate,
on Truths That Transform, on September 15, 1998. This
interview was broadcast on 630 radio stations.
Exodus Mandate is a new ministry based in Columbia S.C., which
urges Christian parents to take their children out of state-run
public schools to ensure their moral and intellectual development.
The Coral Ridge Ministries TV network also featured interviews
with Moore, Marshal Fritz of the Fresno, California-based Separation
of School and State Alliance, Dr. Robert Simonds of Citizens for
Excellence in Education, and Brannon Howse of the American Family
Policy Institute on September 13, 1998 on 550 TV stations. These
broadcasts by the Coral Ridge Ministries network reach millions
of theological conservatives and evangelical Christians and will
provide a significant boost in mainstreaming of the
Exodus Mandate call for families to remove their children from
public schools.
Dr. Kennedy has long advocated that Christians should send their
children to Christian schools of home-school them in preference
to public schools. But with these broadcasts, Dr. Kennedy is poised
to become a leading voice among national Christian leaders on
behalf of the separation/exodus theme. He also recently signed
the Proclamation for the Separation of School and State
being circulated by the Separation of School and State Alliance.
E. Ray Moore, Jr., Director of Exodus Mandate, called attention
to recent reporting on his campaign in USA Today (7/20/98) and
in the major evangelical magazine Christian Today (9/7/98). He
said this mainstream coverage shows the depth of parental concern
over the abject failure of public schools, and that
the concept of an exodus from state-governed public
education is beginning to take hold nationwide. Moore continued,
Today some 12-15 million evangelical Christian children,
or 90% of the children from Christian families, are still attending
government schools which are now totally hostile to their faith.
If these families were to leave Pharoahs schools for the
promised land of Christian schools or home-schooling, it could
trigger the spiritual awakening we are all praying and longing
for to renew our churches, our nation, and our debased culture.
This event could seriously cripple the power secularism now holds
over our culture by holding our children as near-hostages in state
schools.
Moore predicts a turn around in American culture as parents and
churches resume their historic responsibility for the education
of their children, because only they can restore the Christian
virtues to the rising generations. This is the only battle that
counts in the long run, and a battle that can be won, but only
if believers begin the exodus from atheistic public schools.
Moore is urging Christian parents to learn more about Exodus Mandate
